Media Growth

When looking into new media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, snapchat, Instagram, and etc.  Different fields of media use them differently, lets look at traditional news such as print and magazines. I know that snapchat is a big thing for print media, look at the news feeds that come up under the featured category.

Ad/Pr has a whole new tool with social media, so really any social media can be used for Ad/Pr. I know that snapchat is now doing ads in between stories, but facebook has ads that pop up using the history on your computer trying to dig for what the user likes, creepy but useful and I know it has worked on me a time or two.

Broadcasters have the new form of reporting in the “live” aspect of many of the social media platforms, I never thought that when I was asked to “live Tweet” someone would confuse it with video. Going live on facebook is an important tool to many news organizations.

Quoting a friend of mine “the future is now” and he isn’t wrong, VR or virtual reality headsets are a some what new concept that are making great strides in all communications fields.  It brings empathy for news casts, and lets people feel up close to a product in an advertisement and lets us act in a virtual reality.

Another social media concept that has been around but evolved over the years would be gaming, the evolution of gaming changed from people playing in an arcade to LAN parties, and moved all the way to online gaming.  Now over 64 people can be in one single match or map playing and communicating, which really is a crazy idea if we think about it!

Really though, an extremely important thing that has just popped up are the tools like “Sysomos” or “Hootsuite” and a few others, but these websites give a whole new control over social media.  The fact that I could control all of my social media platforms from one webpage is amazing, and even more so if I was to run the social media programs for a major company.  Being able to interact with people in real time when you have thousands of followers, it changes the game for the people working one them.

So, it is easy to see how social media is growing and changing our everyday lives.  Look at our political happenings of this past year, a man won due to the skill he had on social media good or bad that is what gave him the edge he needed.  It isn’t all negative though, the way that social media keeps people informed now is great for things happening all around the world.

Working for What You Love

I have wondered what makes me want to be in my perspective field of work, and I also wondered what makes people find the “true calling” that people so often talk about.

Well I figured out what I like to do, and really what I don’t like to do and that is about it. People say that “you know when you know” and I really don’t know anything about my work path, one day I want to do one thing and the next another it’s almost like I just wish a job would slap me in the face and say “This is what you’re going to do” and I would be done with it!

No that doesn’t happen and for this I have to find things that I truly love, and I know what some are the problem comes when I find something else I like to do as well and try to put the two together.  This makes for more stress and frustration, but if it could work it could make me happy, but the path I am on is the right one I feel like the major I picked was the right one.  I just need to feel right with the jobs I will take in my life, and that is what is scary.

It is possible to figure out if you don’t like the job you are in, and sometimes it happens which can be good or bad.  Good that you know that it isn’t for you, but bad that you are doing in the first place. We just have to use these signs to figure out if it is right or not.

Helping the Helpless

To this day I still have little love for social media, which being that it is a must to have in this day and age. School work is done on it, connections are made by it, people start revolutions with it… but it also has a downside, which would be the countless number of people harassed or bullied online.

People haven’t seen a faceless action like this, I say faceless because when typing something to someone a feeling of emotion is missed. Looking a computer screen makes some things so not personal, making it easy to say hateful and awful things to others even more so when we don’t know them.

A major trend has happened with people being bullied, and it is a tragic one that no one should ever have to deal with. The good thing is that people are out there to help the victims of the harassment, individuals have made web pages for people to seek help. I believe that it could be stopped as long as the problem has support, and people understand the damage it does to another human being.Blog7.png

Scary Gaming

With the new form of gaming popping up in VR, an all new form of game was made with VR horror.  I understand that horror games have been around for along time, but the new way of diving into the stories that nightmares are made of brings new problems.

The problem with horror games is the fact that fear is a hard emotion to get rid of, look at people who have a fear of spiders and how they won’t even get close to them. Now imagine that you are dropped in a virtual world that is made up of just spiders, I would just take off the headset and probably never put it on again. It would play games with your head, feeling like spiders were everywhere.

This really is something that is happening more and more, but not in a way that the public health bureau needs to look into it. VR games are becoming more popular by the day, which is great for the gaming industry.Blog photo6.png

Free Candy of The Internet

So, you know how when we were kids and our mothers would say “Don’t take candy from strangers” well, the rule in many ways is the same for the internet.  People thing that it is impossible to be scammed online with the common saying “It won’t happen to me!”  Trust me it does I was that person and fell for a muscle supplement scam that looked to good to pass up.

Meaning that This can very well happen to anyone, look at some major companies that get hacked or stuck in a fraudulent trap.   Which makes it even harder for us as users of these companies, because our information is lost due to the one wrong move of said company.

Now for people, we all need to understand that the king of Nigeria isn’t asking us for $5,000 and giving us $1 million in return, this is the free candy I spoke of earlier, but not really even free and even more dangerous if you actually give out your information.

Living the Brand

Looking into the world of social media, people have to watch what they post not only for safety.  They should watch what is posted due to how they will be seen as people, and employees.

Most people don’t look at what they say on social media to be important, but that is not true in the least bit,  employers look at social media more then anything during the interview proses.

Social media plays the roll of getting to know people before they even come in for the job, many places give an idea of how you could mess up a job opportunity with one wrong post.Social blog.png

Journalistic Integrity

As of late I’ve watched less and less actual new, and started just waiting for something to pop up on a notification from one of the many social media accounts that I just recently started.

I then started to think “why would anyone by a paper now”  and the question kind of hurts, I personally love newspaper and think it is great.  The problem is with the social media apps of today we don’t always need a journalist to write things for us, for example let us look to our President.

This one man is probably the most influential citizen journalist to this day, he single handedly destroyed the credibility of news organizations by just saying “Fake News” which is really incredible and scary.

Really though this isn’t a post meant to bash our President, but really to inform the people that the first amendment is still alive with every post put on the internet.  People now have the ability to give live reports on news that some organizations don’t have the time to send staff to,  getting more information out faster.  Is it all true probably not I’m pretty sure Jackie Chan has died 30 times, because someone thought it was funny to say it.

Never the less social media is the new form of newspaper, drinking a cup of coffee and looking at our phone is the new norm.citizenJournalism.jpg
